Lobat Sadrehashemi

Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship

Lobat Sadrehashemi was called to the Bars of Ontario and British Columbia in 2006. Lobat joined Pivot Legal LLP in October of 2006. She shares her time equally between serving individual clients in immigration and refugee law at Pivot Legal LLP and providing systemic legal advocacy and education for Pivot Legal Society's campaigns on child welfare reform and violence against women (the Jane Doe Legal Network).

Lobat graduated from the University of Toronto's Joint Law and Master's of Social Work program in June 2005, which included a practicum placement at the HIV/AIDS Legal Clinic of Ontario (HALCO). Lobat was awarded two fellowships during law school to pursue social justice work at the Centre for Equality Rights in Accommodation (CERA), a non-profit dedicated to the issues of human rights and housing, and the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, a legal and counseling centre assisting women who have experienced violence with their family and immigration law matters. Prior to moving Vancouver, Lobat articled and worked as an associate for Lorne Waldman, one of Canada's leading immigration and refugee lawyers.

In early 2008, Lobat co-authored a report on the child welfare system from the perspective of low-income parents entitled Broken Promises: Parents Speak about the Child Welfare in B.C. Through the Jane Doe Legal Network at Pivot Legal Society, Lobat is available by appointment for free legal consultations with women survivors of violence seeking information about immigration and refugee issues. Lobat is also a frequent presenter at workshops around the Lower Mainland on domestic violence and the child protection system and the legal issues and options for immigrant and refugee women leaving violent relationships. 

In her spare time, Lobat can be found wandering around her neighbourhood, reading fiction, and succumbing to her weakness for stationary and teas.
